Summary of Ontario’s Home Efficiency Rebate Program
The Home Efficiency Rebate Program provides financial incentives for upgrading various home components to improve energy efficiency. Eligible homeowners can receive rebates for windows, doors, insulation, heat pumps, water heaters, and air sealing.
Eligibility Requirements & Rebate Details
1. Windows, Doors, Skylights, and Sliding Doors
- Rebate Amount: $50 per rough opening
- Minimum Upgrade Requirement:
- At least 3 windows, or
- At least 1 door, or
- At least 1 skylight, or
- At least 1 sliding door
- Conditions:
- Must replace non-ENERGY STAR-certified models with ENERGY STAR-certified models.
- Replacing existing ENERGY STAR-certified models does not qualify.
- The entire window or door unit (including the frame) must be replaced; replacing only glass, sash, or door without the frame does not qualify.
- Rebate is based on rough openings (not the number of windows/doors installed).
- Example: A bay window with three window units installed in one rough opening is not eligible.
Additional Eligible Measures
The following upgrades may also qualify for rebates:
- Insulation Upgrades:
- Exposed Floor Insulation
- Attic Insulation
- Exterior Wall Insulation
- Basement Insulation
- Crawl Space Insulation
- Air Sealing
- Heat Pumps & Water Heaters:
- Ground Source Heat Pumps
- Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) and Cold Climate ASHP (ccASHP)
- Heat Pump Water Heaters
Each of these measures has its own eligibility criteria and rebate amounts. Homeowners must keep all ENERGY STAR labels on new windows/doors until the Post-Audit to maintain eligibility.
