Ontario HVAC Home Rebates Summary (2024–2026)
Overview of the Program
The Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) program, a collaboration between Enbridge Gas and the Canada Greener Homes Initiative (CGHI), offers grants of up to $10,000 for energy-efficient home retrofits, including insulation, windows, doors, heat pumps, and renewable energy systems.
- Key Deadlines:
- Pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation must have been completed by February 5, 2024.
- Post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation must be completed by March 31, 2026 (or earlier if funds are exhausted).
- Rebates are first-come, first-served and may be terminated early if funding runs out.
Eligibility Criteria
- The program is available for the following home types:
- Single and semi-detached homes, row houses, townhomes, mobile homes (permanent foundation), permanently moored floating homes.
- Mixed-use buildings with 50%+ residential space.
- Low-rise multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) (3 storeys or less, ≤600m²).
- Not eligible:
- Homes not heated by Enbridge Gas (unless converting to it).
- Homes under 6 months old or incomplete.
- Buildings 4 storeys or more or larger than 600m².
- Homes with leased/rental heat pumps.
- Multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) over 3 storeys or larger than 600m².
- Rental properties (unless owner-occupied).
- Participants must not have received previous rebates for the same retrofit measure from another program (HER, CGHG, HER+).
Maximum Rebates Available
- Enbridge Gas customers: Up to $10,000.
- Non-Enbridge Gas customers: Up to $5,000.
- Assessment costs: Up to $600 for pre- and post-retrofit evaluations (combined).
- Solar PV systems: Up to $5,000.
- Heat pump water heaters: Up to $1,300.
- Thermostats: Up to $50 from HER+ and $75 from Enbridge Gas (for eligible smart thermostats).

MURB (Multi-Unit Residential Buildings) Rebates

- Each MURB participant can receive up to $10,000 (Enbridge Gas) or $5,000 (non-Enbridge Gas).
- Homeowners in two-unit MURBs and houses with secondary suites qualify for standard rebates.
Off-Grid Community Rebates
- Furnaces/boilers rebates available for homeowners in off-grid communities.
- Communities include Bearskin Lake, Deer Lake, Fort Severn, Gull Bay, Pikangikum, Sandy Lake, Weagamow Lake, and others.
Important Notes
- All equipment must be purchased in Canada.
- Online purchases must be from Canadian distributors.
- Leased or rented equipment is not eligible.
- Rebates cannot exceed the total cost of evaluations and retrofits.
